Think to Protect
Programme Manager – Explosion & Ballistic Protection
Home Office Scientific Development Branch
£41,601-£53,615 + benefits
Working with other government organisations, academia and industry, you will be instrumental in developing a centre of advisory expertise. This will help mitigate the effects of blast and ballistic attacks by undertaking audits of buildings and venues prior to major events – developing procedures and standards for the construction of government buildings and protection of personnel.
Overseeing the gathering and analysis of data from trials and incidents, in conjunction with partner agencies, you will design and conduct innovative tests – often contributing to the establishment of national, European and international test standards. Your conclusions will then enable the team to assess the behaviour of buildings and other components under blast and ballistic loading.
This is a pivotal and challenging role, not least because you will need to strike the right balance between outlining a persuasive view of the future whilst remaining responsive to change at all times. Setting clear goals for your team, and ensuring the right support is in place to realise those targets, your leadership will promote a culture that is customer focussed at all times.
As regards qualifications, you must hold an advanced degree in civil/structural engineering, materials science or explosive ordnance engineering. You should combine this with CEng or Eureng status and, ideally, an impressive record in building design and construction.
